Rocky Route in Roquefort

It was a mild Sunday morning as we met behind the Post Office in Roquefort les Pins.
Padre and Jobsworth were the hares and the latter was on sentry on duty directing hashers who may have gone to the car park where we started our St Patricks Day Hash. The directions to the venue were, for once, very clear. The only possible beneficiary would, of course, been Farty Bum but she did not turn up anyway until the circle.

May as well get the criticism out of the way. When we hash in July we expect decent exposure to heat and quite frankly there was too much bloody shade. This must have been particularly tough on our visitors from Abu Dhabi: 'OO'ZEE and PASHMINA who must have felt quite chilly at times.
Anyway we started off on tarmac and ascending. We all went wrong at the first check and that set the pattern for the day. I do not know whether it was exceptional trail laying by the hares or the pack being particularly dim.
Fortunately there were again more runners than walkers so the burden of the falsies was shared. It was good to say Levrette who was taking a well deserved break from home making. But the first km or so was tough with all the falsies being followed and a steep climb to negotiate to boot. But we were soon in the forest and generally not too demanding terrain. Plenty of loose rocks though so not that easy underfoot. Eventually we came to a question mark in flour which confused us all. Padre arrived and explained he put it there for our ideas on what a small ruined building was during its active life. No idea was the general response as we continued to the beer stop located at the entrance to a very expensive looking domain.

Could be a bit dodgy this. Over the years our reception outside expensive properties has been mixed - mainly favourable but not always - particularly the memorable occasion when we were greeted by a venomous Italian with a shotgun near Montauroux 15 years ago. On this occasion the natives were friendly and the beer stop very welcome.

The return started with an ascent and more shade but once that was over with it was largely a descent in bright hot sunshine back to the Post Office to be greeted by Farty Bum, Mad Max and their grandchidren.

Down Downs were awarded to:

Hares: Padre & Jobsworth

Visitors (from Abu Dhabi): Ooz Eee & Pashmina (who had no trouble locating the meeting place, contrary to some local members) (Also Jonathan age 6 and Sophie age 4, from California)

Late: Farty Bum (who informed the hash twelve hours in advance that she would be late but still got down-downed for it)

Mugless: Mad Max

End of Ramadam (Eid, that is): 'Ooz 'Eee

50th birthday on Bastille Day, plus new status as a free man: Jobsworth

Anniversary ending in zero: 'OO'ZEE and PASHMINA

Kicked out by their wives: Cumalot, Pedo, Jobsworth

Returners: Supermarket Trolley, Levrette

Anniversary of Rainbow Warrior incident: Tosspot (representing France)

Shit of the Week:

Farty Bum for not bringing Mad Max's mug (pathetically weak nomination, nearly vetoed by Perpetch)

Mad Max for not being responsible for his own mug

Using non-hash names in the circle: Cumalot

Winner: Cumalot
Second: Mad Max
